120,000 Member Teamster Joint Council Throws Might Behind Christine Quinn in Race for Mayor

The 120,000 member proud Teamsters Joint Council 16 provided an enthusiastic and robust show of support for City Council Speaker Christine Quinn today, endorsing her candidacy for Mayor of New York. Citing her unrivaled record of delivering real results for New York’s hardworking families and her forward-looking vision for making the City a place where middle and working class New Yorkers can continue to live, the Teamsters lent their name to a growing number of supporters and endorsements for Quinn.

“We are proud to support Christine Quinn for mayor, an unmatched advocate of working families in New York,” said Joint Council 16 President George Miranda. “Christine Quinn has laid out an ideas-driven agenda, backed up by a real record of delivering, and her plans for New York are rooted in her middle class background and a vision for New York where working families can continue to live and work here. Speaker Quinn is the only candidate with the actual experience creating real jobs in New York and we know that as mayor, she won’t just talk about creating jobs, she will actually create them.”

“The men and women of Teamsters Joint Council 16 represent the best of our city: hard working New Yorkers, who day in and day out help make this City run,” said City Council Speaker Christine Quinn. “I know firsthand the important role organized labor plays in providing economic security for families throughout the five boroughs. As mayor, I will do everything in my power to ensure that we continue to create good-paying jobs for hardworking families and put in place policies that make it easier for working families to continue to live, work, and raise a family in this City.”

Joint Council 16 encompasses the entire Greater New York Area, and includes 29 local affiliated unions. Joint Council 16’s support for Quinn’s run comes on the heels of support from a robust list of public officials, labor unions, and activists. Recently, United Auto Workers (UAW) Region 9A, The National Organization for Women of NYC (NOW-NYC) and Congressman Joe Crowley have all announced they’re backing Christine Quinn for mayor.
