On Anniversary Of Geraldine Ferraro’s Groundbreaking Vice-Presidential Nomination, Family Members Announce Support Of Christine Quinn’s Historic Bid For Mayor
On the 29th anniversary of Geraldine Ferraro galvanizing America with her inspirational Vice-Presidential nomination acceptance speech, her family, John Zaccaro, Donna Zaccaro Ullman, John Zaccaro Jr. and Laura Zaccaro Lee announced their commitment towards breaking new barriers by supporting Christine Quinn’s historic bid for Mayor of New York City.
Ferraro's husband, John Zaccaro, stated, "Gerry was a strong supporter of Christine Quinn. She admired her work on behalf of New York and was enthusiastic about her candidacy. We are proud as her family to announce our support for Christine Quinn for Mayor. Just as my wife promised to 'pass on a stronger, more just America', we know that Christine Quinn as Mayor, will pass on a stronger, more just New York City."
Ferraro's daughter Donna said: "Christine shares the dedication to public service that my mother had, and she works tirelessly every day on behalf of New York families."
Her son John Jr. reiterated: "New Yorkers have been able to count on Christine Quinn. She is a dedicated fighter, a true leader with an extensive record of results."
Her daughter Laura added: "We look forward to seeing Christine carry on my mother's legacy of female leadership as New York City's first female mayor."
Quinn expressed her appreciation for Ferraro's family's support, stating, "Gerry Ferraro was a trailblazer who paved the way for generations of women and girls. As a young woman, I watched all that Gerry fearlessly conquered and achieved with great admiration and respect. – She opened my eyes to a world of possibilities and never stopped in her advocacy and dedicated work. She also had a profound impact on my wife, Kim; as a young Italian American woman, she had never seen an Italian lawyer, and seeing Gerry was a real inspiration for her. I am honored to receive the support of the family she loved so dearly. I will work each and every day to live up to Geraldine’s incredible legacy, and continue to deliver results for the City we have both loved.”
In her historic acceptance speech, Ferraro stated: “By choosing a woman to run for our nation's second highest office, you sent a powerful signal to all Americans. There are no doors we cannot unlock. We will place no limits on achievement.”
Geraldine was a champion of New Yorkers, from protecting victims of child abuse and domestic violence, to fighting for hard working families trying to make their way to the middle class, to always recognizing the importance of our vibrant immigrant communities.
Quinn’s historic campaign has garnered the support of numerous women’s advocacy groups, elected officials and feminist leaders including NOW-NYC, NARAL Pro-Choice New York, feminist-icon Gloria Steinem, EMILY’s List, the Women’s Campaign Fund, Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney, Lena Dunham, Liz Abzug, former Manhattan Borough President Ruth Messinger, former Congresswoman Liz Holtzman, the Dominican Women’s Coalition, and more than 1,000 women throughout New York working to elect Quinn under the Women for Quinn banner.
