The Dominican Women's Coalition and Council Members Julissa Ferreras and Diana Reyna Endorse Chris
The Dominican Women’s Coalition and Council Members Julissa Ferreras and Diana Reyna endorsed City Council Speaker Christine C. Quinn for Mayor today, citing her unmatched record of getting results for New York City's residents and immigrant community. The Coalition in particular praised her accomplishments at protecting and increasing affordable housing, creating opportunities for New York’s immigrants and helping New York families striving to enter the middle class.
"Christine Quinn understands the immigrant community as a second generation American. Her grandparents came to the U.S. from Ireland, and they knew that everything is possible in the US if you work hard. As someone who is a naturalized citizen, I am confident that with Christine Quinn as Mayor the immigrant community will be fairly represented in her administration,” said Zenaida Mendez, Founder Dominican Women's Caucus.
“I have no doubt Christine Quinn is the best Mayor for small businesses in New York City. She has proven to be a true supporter of small businesses; her track record speaks for itself. Under her leadership, we have witnessed the passing of more legislation and implementation of initiatives that support small businesses, including women-owned enterprises, than at any other time in the city. She is a woman of her word; what she has promised, she has delivered. As an individual that advocates and works with the small business community, I can attest to that! That is why she has my support,” said Quenia Abreu, President and CEO of the New York Women's Chamber of Commerce.
“Speaker Quinn is a leading advocate for New Yorkers, and particularly for New York women,” said Council Member Julissa Ferreras (D-Queens). “As Chair of the Women’s Committee, I’ve proudly worked with Speaker Quinn to combat domestic violence, protect women’s health care and help secure childcare and early education for tens of thousands of New York families. I look forward to helping see her break barriers and become New York City’s next mayor.”
"It is a new day for Women in politics. The time is now! As women all throughout our great city can come together with tremendous unity to elect a woman to become our first female Mayor. I proudly endorse Christine Quinn as my mayoral candidate" said Council Member Diana Reyna (D-Brooklyn).
“I’m honored to be endorsed by the Dominican Women’s Coalition, some of New York’s most empowering women,” stated Speaker Quinn. “These leaders are a strong voice for New York City’s Latina women and for the entire Latino community. They are truly engaged advocates who work tirelessly on behalf of their community. I look forward to working together to continue to build on my record of results and expand my vision for New York’s future.”
The Dominican Women’s Coalition was formed in 2009 and includes hundreds of members. Most recently, the Coalition helped elect Gabriela Rosa to the New York State Assembly in the 72nd Assembly District and New York County Surrogate Court Judge Rita Mella.
