Arroyo and Council Members Maria del Carmen Arroyo, Annabel Palma and Joel Rivera united today to announce their support for City Council Speaker Christine Quinn's campaign for mayor. The Bronx officials all agree that Speaker Quinn is the only candidate who has proven she can – and will – deliver real results for the residents of the Bronx.

Today's endorsements highlight a growing coalition of support for Speaker Quinn’s bid for mayor. The Bronx elected officials join leaders including Bronx State Senator Gustavo Rivera, Teamsters Joint Council, United Auto Workers (UAW), the National Organization for Women of New York City (NOW-NYC) and Council Member Julissa Ferreras, who have announced their support of Christine Quinn Mayor.

“Speaker Quinn, with her unparalleled record of results, is the best candidate for my district and for New Yorkers as a whole,” said Assembly Member Carmen E. Arroyo. “I am extraordinarily excited to put my full backing and support behind such a committed and intelligent woman who has repeatedly fought for and met the needs of Latino New Yorkers. I know I can trust her to make things happen and eager to see her bring her years of experience to the Mayor's office.”

“Christine Quinn’s record as City Council Speaker speaks for itself,” said Council Member Maria del Carmen Arroyo. “Under her leadership, the Council has fought for everyday New Yorkers in my district, here in the Bronx, and around the city. She has proved herself a true ally to Latino tenants, small businesses owners, workers and students, and together, we’ve delivered results time and time again. We have worked to meet the educational needs of students and in particular as the former and current Health Committee Chairs, to improve New Yorker’s health and increase access to nutritional food for countless families. Speaker Quinn will make sure that City Hall listens to the needs of all New Yorkers and that’s what makes her the right choice to lead our city forward.”

“Speaker Quinn’s plans to bring industry into the South Bronx will have an enormous revitalizing effect on this borough. She has proven time and again, that she has the best interests of Bronx residents in mind when she takes action. She is absolutely the best choice for the Bronx,” said Council Member Annabel Palma. "As a life long resident of the Bronx and a New York City Councilmember, I've seen Speaker Quinn demonstrate her commitment to the issues that affect working families and low income New Yorkers. It is because of her record on delivering that I am proud and honored to endorse her for Mayor."

City Council Majority Leader Joel Rivera stated, “Speaker Quinn’s devotion to expanding the middle class, and bettering the lives of New York City’s working class has had a profound effect on the Bronx community. I know that as mayor of this great city, Christine Quinn will do everything in her power to make the Bronx an even better place.

“It is a privilege to have the support of Assembly Member Arroyo and Council Members Arroyo, Palma and Rivera,” said Speaker Quinn. “I’m incredibly proud of all we have done to strengthen our classrooms, expand and protect affordable housing, increase access to healthy food and meet the needs of small businesses. I’m even more excited to continue our work together in the Bronx – In the coming years, the Bronx is going to become a center of new jobs and industry in New York City. I look forward to working with these great leaders and Bronx residents as mayor to support, and continue to develop this great borough.”
